Biography

Canadian pianist Melody, currently pursuing a Master of Music (MMus) in Piano Performance at the University of British Columbia under Dr. David Fung, has achieved notable recent successes. She earned a bronze medal in the Solo Piano Category at the 2023 Vancouver International Music Competition, First Prize at the 2024 Vancouver International Music Festival, and Gold Medal in the Chamber Music Category at the 2024 Saint-Saëns International Music Competition.

Melody's musical talents have been recognized through various scholarships, including the Faculty of Arts Graduate Award, the Johann Strauss Foundation Scholarship, the Willena Evans Awards in Music, and the London Music Scholarship Foundation Endowment Awards. Her commitment to expanding her musical horizons is evident in her active participation in competitions and festivals. She won the Young Artist Award at the 2017 Canada International Music Competition (CIMC-MOMA) and achieved notable placements at prestigious music festivals, including first place at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and the Kiwanis Festivals in Canada and Asia.

Her musical journey has also led her to esteemed music festivals such as Orford Musique Music Academy, Seattle Piano Institute, AlpenKammerMusik in Austria, and Adamant Music School, where she received scholarships and participated in masterclasses with renowned pianists. At AlpenKammerMusik, she performed with Principal Cellist Rebecca Gilliver from the London Symphony Orchestra in Turina’s Piano Quartet, and with Principal Viola Matan Gilitchensky of the Dresdner Philharmonie in Dohnányi’s Piano Quintet. Additionally, she performed with her newly formed Nuages Trio, which recently placed in multiple competitions.

Beyond her musical pursuits, Melody is deeply committed to community engagement. She regularly performs at retirement homes and community concerts in Toronto and Vancouver, sharing the joy of music with others. Her dedication also led her to organize successful concerts under Western University's CLEE project. In 2023, she co-founded the Golden Ears Chamberfest, a chamber festival tour around British Columbia each summer.

Melody's passion for music has taken her on performance tours across Europe, Asia, and North America, with memorable concerts in Austria and the Czech Republic. She will embark on a tour in China during the 2024-2025 season, showcasing her talents through solo and chamber recitals and sharing her knowledge through masterclasses.
